I am from the vibrant chaos of Colombo,
from city streets and sarees in saffron and silk.
I am from mountain dreams and fall leaves,
from sunsets and stories to church bells and incense.

I am from Aachchi and Seeya, Ammi and Tha
from “you’re too blessed to be stressed” to
“never lose sight of your roots”
from fanta and espresso,
to cola and kisses.

I am from sweet melodies and ivory keys,
from a love for people and a heart to serve.
I am from a relentless pursuit of beauty and boldness,
from dreams of taking (his)tory,
and making her voice ring through the pages.

I am a work in progress. But this I know for sure –
